DEEP HEAVEN NOW 5//THIS WEEKEND “Welcome to the spring 2012 edition of Deep Heaven Now! Continuing the bi/semi-annual tradition of the original Deep Heaven festivals of the 90s in Boston! Featuring the very best of the local and national Ambient/Experimental/Psychedelic/Shoegaze/Whatever scene.The 5th edition of Deep Heaven Now is a 2 day event starting Friday, May 4th through May 5th! ONE $10 admission fee gets you access to BOTH venues for that day. Precinct set times start on the 12 and PA’s set times start on the 6. So there’ll be plenty of time to check out almost all the bands if you want to. $10/day. Hi Lites from Night 1 include east coast psych/shoegaze veterans from DC Screen Vinyl Image performing the first of 2 different sets that weekend as well as psych rockers Lead Stones from NYC. Also not to be missed are new locals Sun Sister who’ll be the best thing you’ve heard since Black Tamborine. Anchoring the night are the soon to be famous The New Highway Hymnal as well as Deep Heaven Now staples Ghost Box Orchestra. Hi Lites from Night 2 start with the east coast/midwest shoegaze psych brigade of female fronted bands this time inlcude Thrushes (Baltimore), Nights (Cleveland), Is/Is (MN featuring Sarah Neinaber of Gospel Gossip), locals Night Fruit and Velah (featuring 2 former members of Static of the Gods). Vanya Records: Vanya Records expands operational roster

VANYA RECORDS EXPANDS OPERATIONAL ROSTER

Allston, Mass. — Boston-based digital and vinyl record label Vanya Records is pleased to announce the first expansion of its operational roster.

- Paul Driscoll, currently the program director of WFNX Radio in Boston, has been named vice presiden of artist development.

-Mallory Hestand, of Boston-based noise-pop trio Earthquake Party, has been named label manager.

Today, both join the growing Vanya Records family, a DIY label
established in September 2011 out of the Allston bedroom of founder Michael Marotta. Both Driscoll and Hestand will work alongside Marotta
in several capacities, all of which subscribe to the label’s overarching goal of placing musical creation and artistic creativity above all. 

The current Vanya Records artist roster includes three of Boston’s finest acts: dance-pop quartet Bearstronaut, psych-rock four-piece the New Highway Hymnal, and electronic music composer and producer Andre Obin.

On deck for Vanya are two new releases: a full-length record from the New Highway Hymnal (VAN004, late summer) and a five-track EP from Bearstronaut (VAN005, early fall).

Andre Obin is currently preparing for a small European tour over two weeks in May. Confirmed dates include May 17 at Pand48 in Groningen, the Netherlands, and May 24 at Crack Bellmer in Berlin, Germany.

Previous Vanya releases include the label’s inaugural trilogy of 7-inches: Bearstronaut “Moniker” (VAN001), the New Highway Hymnal “Blackened Hands” (VAN002)and Andre Obin “Valencia” (VAN003).
